Physical Disabilities

Physical disabilities are conditions that substantially limit one or more basic physical activities in life, such as:

walking, climbing stairs, reaching, carrying, or lifting. These limitations can hinder the person from performing tasks of daily living. Physical disabilities are unique to each person.

A physical disability does not automatically prevent a person from performing specific tasks but makes them slightly more challenging, making daily tasks take longer to complete, such as getting dressed or difficulty gripping and carrying things.

Psychical disabilities can either be hereditary congenital or acquired. Those with a hereditary or congenital physical disability have had the condition since birth or developed the condition because of inherited genetic problems.

A person can acquire a physical disability due to several reasons. This can be caused by severe accidents, brain injuries, infections, diseases and as a side effect of disorders and other medical conditions, such as a stroke and dementia.

Although there are multiple forms of physical disabilities, the main types are:

– Spinal cord Injury
– Dwarfism
– Spina bifida
– Cerebral palsy
– Cystic Fibrosis
– Epilepsy
– Multiple sclerosis
– Muscular dystrophy
– Tourette syndrome
